Yandere Monster Evolution: My Blind Wife Will Become a Demonic Queen
Chapter 130: Apocalypse #2"You dare bring your filthy bows into my home," Val whispered, his voice dropping into a register that was so low it made my teeth ache.
He took a single step forward.
BOOM!
In response to his step, suddenly a wave of pure crimson pressure erupted from his body.
The ten Elven archers didn’t even have the chance to release thief strings. The moment the king’s pressure hit them, their kness instantly shattered under the weight of the aura.
"Urrrg,"
They collapsed onto the floor and their beautiful faces twisting into expressions of agony as the marble beneath them cracked into a spiderweb of deep fissures.
As for Carmilla, she was standing frozen near the shattered window and didn’t even move to take cover. The wind waves from the rain of arrows outside, whipped her dark hair across her face. Her eyes were filled with terror and some unknown resolve.
She was staring down at the courtyard, where her friends and the knights she had known since her childhood were being slaughtered by the black rain and the invading dragon kin soldiers.
"Carmilla! Fall back!’ the Queen ordered and I could see her voice crack under the panic. "Get to the lower vaults with your brother!"
"No," Carmilla whispered.
Her voice was incredibly quiet, yet it carried a sharp edge that cut through the sounds of the arrows and the dragons’ roars.
"They are dying, Mother," Carmilla murmured, her entire body trembling as faint, erratic sparks of red lightning began to buzz along the dark leather of her scabbard. "I watched them die once."
"I won’t watch it again," she whispered.
She slowly turned her face toward Vera, her dull crimson eyes locking onto her paper bag mask as if she was waiting for Vera to say something.
However, in response, Vera didn’t say anything, and just noded her head slightly.
As soon as I noticed the faint nod, "Carmilla, don’t!" I shouted and took a step forward. "You don’t have the mana! Your core is still locked from the Duke fight! If you go out there, you’ll die in ten seconds!"
She didn’t listen. The only person she obey was Vera, I suppose.
"Haaa~"
With a low, determined grunt, Carmilla leaped straight out of the shattered window, her dark cloak billowing behind her as she plunged toward the chaotic slaughterhouse below.
"Carmilla!!!" King Val roared.
The Vampire King didn’t hesitate. He didn’t look at us, and he didn’t care about the strange travelers in his dining hall. He stepped onto the ledge of the window, his massive crimson cloak snapping violently in the wind.
"Guards! Protect the Queen!" Val commanded, his golden eyes flaring with a majestic, golden light as he channeled his mana. "I will handle the sky!"
BOOM!
With a massive leap, the King launched himself into the air, his body trailing a massive streak of golden and crimson energy as he flew toward the dark clouds to intercept the incoming disaster.
Inside the dining hall, the remaining royal guards quickly formed a circle around the Queen and the younger children, with their swords drawn and their faces pale.
"Brian!" Seok called out, his spear humming with blue mana as the ceiling above us began to buckle under the weight of a massive explosion. "If we stay in this room, we will be crushed."
I looked down at Vera, who was still holding my hand.
What... What should we do now? The war has already started, Grog is already hurt beyond fighting, and Carmilla... Carmilla is out, trying to save her kingdom.
If this goes on like this, we won’t be able to get out of here alive. I need to think, think about something... Something that can save us... And keep us alive at the very least.
First of all, I need to know if the heart which Grog touched is available in this timeline too.
"Vera," I whispered. "The thing that triggered the inversion?"
Vera tilted her head slightly, and began to to focus on her senses.
"It’s deep," she murmured softly, her breath warm against my shoulder despite the freezing cold air. "Beneath the palace. The energy signature is incredibly dense, but it’s currently surrounded by a massive, pulsing barrier of royal blood-mana, I think. We can’t reach it unless the seal is deactivated... or if maybe the King dies."
’If the King dies.’
I looked back out the window. Down in the courtyard, Carmilla was already surrounded. Because her mana channels were completely locked, she couldn’t trigger her red lightning. She was relying entirely on her raw, physical reflexes as her dark blade clashed against the heavy weapons of the invading dragon-kin soldiers who had breached the outer walls.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
She was fast, but she was physically weaker than a normal human right now. A heavy broadsword strike from a lizard soldier sent her skidding across the blood-slick cobblestones and her armor teared apart at the shoulder as a fresh stream of blood leaked from her arm.
"Ah!" Carmilla gasped, her knees buckling as she tried to raise her sword again. Three more soldiers closed in on her, their scaly faces twisting into brutal, triumphant grins as they raised their halberds to impale her.
"Shit," Jisu hissed, her knuckles white. "I don’t care about the timeline! I’m not watching a teammate get butchered! Even if she is a vampire!"
She was about to leap out of the window too, but I reached out and grabbed her shoulder.
"Wait," I commanded.
"Brian! Are you insane?!" Jisu screamed as she tried to shake off my hand. "She’s going to die!"
"Look," I muttered, pointing toward the sky.
A massive, golden streak of light descended from the clouds like a falling star.
BOOM!!!
The impact was so immense that the entire central courtyard caved inward, creating a massive, five-meter crater that sent the dragon-kin soldiers flying across the air, their scaly bodies shattering from the shockwaves alone.
Standing at the center of the dust was King Val.
His royal armor was covered in dark soot, and his massive crimson cloak was torn at the edges, but his eyes were burning with an unyielding, majestic fire. He didn’t look back at his daughter, but his massive hand reached behind him, gently pulling Carmilla up from the ground by her collar and placing her behind his back.
"I told you to run, child," the King murmured, his deep voice carrying a soft, paternal warmth despite the chaotic war raging around them. "A father’s job is to shield his children from the storm. Not the other way around."
Carmilla stared at the broad, unbroken line of his back, her lips trembling as she clutched her sheathed sword.
"Father..." she whispered, her voice cracking.
High above them, three massive obsidian dragons descended from the clouds, their jaws opening to reveal bright, swirling vortexes of purple fire that targeted the crater.
The King didn’t flinch. He slowly raised his left hand, his pale fingers wrapping around the hilt of his massive, golden broadsword.
"Come," Val whispered to the sky.
The battle of the gods had begun, and we were nothing more than silent spectators standing in a crumbling building, watching the very first day of the end of the world.
"Carmilla," Val said, his voice softening as he turned his back on the incoming dragons, looking directly at his daughter. "Take your mother and your brother. Go to the lower vaults. The path is still clear."
"Father... no," Carmilla choked out. "I can fight. I have the Crimson Lineage... I can use the lightning—"
"No," Val cut her off gently, his hand reaching out to press against her cheek one last time. "Your mana core is empty, my child. You cannot fight today. Go. Live. Ensure that our bloodline does not end in this graveyard."
Carmilla stared at him, her chest heaving as a sob tore through her throat. She knew. She knew that if she walked down those stairs, she would never see him again. She knew that this was the exact moment her father would stand alone against the Dragon Generals, sacrificing his entire life just to buy her a few minutes of safety.
"Go!" Val roared, his golden aura exploding outward as three more Elven knights rushed through the shattered doorway.
"AAAAHHHH!!!"
Carmilla let out a broken, agonizing scream, before turning around and walking inside the building where all of us were. Her hands grabbed her mother’s wrist and pulled her cousins toward the hidden passage behind the throne. Her brother followed, his sword drawn as he kept his eyes on the entrance, tears streaming down his young face.
"Woo Jin," Vera’s soft voice echoed through my panic, her fingers tightening around mine. "What is your decision?"
I looked at the beautiful, burning city, then at my terrified party, and finally at the blue system notification crackling with a violet light in my vision.
We couldn’t save them. Even if we had the power, even if we fought with everything we had, this tragedy was already written in the stars three hundred years ago. We were just ghosts watching a burning memory.
"We survive," I whispered beneath my paper bag mask. "We go down to the lower vaults. And we wait for the war to fall."
