The heavy, gilded throne slid aside with a grinding screech, revealing the dark, yawning mouth of the hidden passage.

"Move! Inside, quickly!" one of the pale royal guards hissed, his sword trembling as he ushered the Queen and the younger royal children toward the stairs.

I stood at the threshold, my fingers still locked tightly with Vera’s. My heart was pounding like a drum against my ribs. Through the eyeholes of my mask, I watched the chaos unfold in the crumbling dining hall.

Everything in my head was screaming at me to run. To slip into the dark, let the history play out exactly as it had three hundred years ago, and find a way to survive.

But my mind was a battlefield of its own.

’If we step onto that battlefield, the timeline will collapse,’ my own cold warning echoed in my mind.

Yet, looking at the blood on the floor, at Grog’s wounded shoulder, and at the despair rolling off Carmilla, the weight of my own inaction felt like a physical chokehold.

I was trying so hard to play the role of a silent spectator, a ghost watching a tragedy. But how could I remain a ghost when the fire of this dying world was already burning my skin? How could I stay detached when the blood of these people was splashing onto my boots?

Beside me, Vera stood perfectly still. She didn’t panic. She didn’t rush toward the door. Because I wasn’t in direct, immediate danger, she remained by my side like an anchor in a raging storm.

To our left, Seok stood steady, his body slightly angled to shield Hana. He was the picture of a veteran hunter—calm, observant, ready. Hana, however, was a different story. She was shaking slightly, her knuckles white around her magical staff, her eyes darting between the cracked ceiling and the dark tunnel entrance.

"S-Seok," Hana whispered, her voice barely audible over the distant roar of the dragons outside. "Is the ceiling going to hold?"

"Focus on your breathing, Hana," Seok replied. "Don’t let your mana go wild. Keep a shield ready, but don’t cast until I tell you."

Behind them, Jisu was struggling. She was supporting Grog, whose face was pale from the massive chunk of blood blown out of his shoulder. The hunter was breathing in short, ragged gasps as his broadsword was dragging heavily on the marble floor.

"Get... Get off me, Jisu," Grog grunted, trying to push her away with his good arm, though his knees buckled the moment he tried to put weight on them. "I can walk. I’m a Rank C hunter, for fuck’s sake..."

"Shut up and lean on me, you idiot!" Jisu hissed, her teeth grit as her red-glowing gauntlet hummed with a desperate, defensive aura. "You’re bleeding out! If you fall here, I’m leaving you behind!"

At the very rear of our group stood Black. He was no longer the relaxed. His posture was rigid, his dark mask turned toward the entrance of the dining hall. The sheer pressure of the descending Elven army and the colossal dragons in the sky had finally stripped away his calm facade.

"We have company," Black murmured, his deep voice cutting through the tension like a razor.

Before we could even take the last three steps toward the hidden passage, the air in the dining hall grew violently cold.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The rhythmic, heavy sound of metal boots echoed from the shattered entrance. Through the thick smoke of the corridor, three Elven archers appeared, their curved bows already notched with those lethal, green-glowing arrows.

But they weren’t leading the charge.

Stepping past them was a single figure clad in heavy, pristine white-and-silver armor that seemed to absorb the light. He carried no shield, only a massive, two-handed greatsword that hummed with dense white mana. Unlike the light armor of the standard Elven soldiers, this man’s presence was absolutely overwhelming.

An Elven Knight, maybe?

His long hair fell perfectly over his shoulders, and his cold eyes locked onto the retreating figures of the Queen and the royal children.

"The bloodline ends here," the Elven Knight said. His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a terrifying force.

"Protect the Queen!" One of the royal guards roared, lunging forward with his sword raised.

FLASH!

The Elven Knight didn’t even seem to exert himself. With a single sweep of his greatsword, a crescent wave of white energy cut through the air. The royal guard’s sword shattered into two pieces, and the man was thrown backward, his chest armor caved in as he crashed lifelessly against the stone wall.

"Mother! Brother! Behind me!" Carmilla screamed.

She didn’t have her mana. But the sight of the Elven Knight approaching her family shattered whatever fear she had left. She drew her dark blade, her raw physical reflexes kicking in as she threw herself in front of the hidden passage.

SWISH! SWISH!

The two Elven archers behind the knight released their strings. Two arrows shot toward the Queen and Carmilla’s cousins with terrifying speed.

"No!" Carmilla gasped.

Using every ounce of her remaining physical strength, Carmilla leaped forward, her dark blade clashing against the first arrow.

Clang!

The sheer force of the wind mana behind the projectile sent a painful shockwave up her arms, nearly disarming her, but she managed to deflect it into the ceiling. The second arrow, however, was aimed directly at her mother.

Without thinking, Carmilla threw her body in the way, preparing to take the hit.

CRACK!

A blue flash of light erupted in front of her. Seok had appeared out of nowhere, his blue spear spinning in a perfect arc to knock the second arrow into the marble floor, where the wind mana exploded, leaving a deep crater.

"Keep moving!" Seok barked at Carmilla, his eyes fixed on the Elven Knight. "We’ll hold the line! Go!"

"A human?" the Elven Knight murmured, his cold gaze shifting from Carmilla to Seok, and then to the rest of our party. "Strange variables. It matters not. All who stand in the way of the world peace shall be cleansed."

He took a step forward, and the sheer weight of his mana made Hana let out a small, terrified whimper.

At that exact moment, a sharp, high-pitched ringing echoed in my ears.

Ding!!!

My breath hitched beneath my paper bag mask.

14.8 percent? Already?

We were already cutting it incredibly close. If we fought that Elven Knight, if we killed him, we might just erase ourselves before we even reached the lower vaults.

"Brian!" Jisu yelled, her voice filled with panic as she struggled to keep Grog upright. "What do we do?! That Elf seem too strong!"

’Yeah, fuk, I know. ’

My mind was spinning.

If I told them to run, if we abandoned Carmilla’s family to the Elven Knight, Carmilla would surely die trying to protect them. If Carmilla died here, the future graveyard we came from would cease to exist, and the loop would break in a completely different, unpredictable way. But if we fought, we would be erased anyway.

’There has to be a third option,’ I thought desperately, my eyes scanning the room, the falling ceiling, and the crumbling marble pillars. ’Think, Woo Jin, think!’

"Grah!" Grog grunted, pushing himself away from Jisu. He gripped his broadsword with his left hand, his face twisting in pain as blood soaked through his armor. "I’m not dying while hiding behind a bunch of kids! Let me at him! All of this happened because of me. I will take full responsibility!"

"Grog, don’t!" Hana cried out, but it was too late.

Grog lunged forward, and his strike was aimed at the Elven Knight’s side.

The Elven Knight didn’t even look at him. He simply raised his left hand, and a solid wall of white, compressed mana materialized in the air.

BANG!

Grog’s broadsword struck the barrier and bounced off violently. The rebound shattered the remaining bones in his right hand, and the shockwave sent him crashing backward onto the shattered dining table, coughing up a mouthful of blood.

"Insignificant pests," the Elven Knight said coldly. He raised his greatsword, the white mana expanding into a massive, three-meter blade of pure light. "Die."

"Get back!" Jisu screamed, throwing herself in front of Grog, her red gauntlet expanding to its absolute maximum as she prepared to take the blow.

’Shit. Shit. Shit. At this rate we all are going to die.’

Please... For god’s sake, something, something, please think of something that can buy us a bit of time.

’Wait.’

The ceiling... The pillars...?!

"Black!" I suddenly roared, my voice cutting through the panic of the room.

My party members paused for a fraction of a second, their eyes darting toward me instantly.

"The pillars!" I shouted, pointing my dagger toward the two massive, cracked marble pillars supporting the heavy golden archway directly above the Elven Knight. "Bring down the ceiling!"

Black’s eyes widened behind his mask and a sharp smirk played on his lips. "Heh. Now that’s my kind of plan."
