Yandere Stream

Chapter 77: The First Time I Lost You

The words hung in the apartment like smoke.

"...Now it’s hunting her."

Nobody spoke.

Kai’s mind rejected the sentence before he even had time to understand it.

"No."

The answer escaped before he could think.

The older Kai looked at him with an expression filled with sympathy and guilt.

"I said the same thing."

Kai shook his head.

"No."

"It can’t."

"It already is."

The older Kai didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t argue.

He simply said it with the same calm certainty someone would use when describing something unavoidable.

"It has been for a long time."

The fear inside Kai slowly twisted into anger.

"What does it even want from her?"

"I don’t know."

Kai stared at him.

"You said you knew enough."

"I know how it behaves."

The older Kai looked toward the silhouette waiting at the end of Apartment 7C.

"I don’t know why."

Those two answers were somehow worse than anything else.

Because they were honest.

The silhouette hadn’t moved.

It simply watched.

Patiently.

Waiting.

As if time had no meaning to it.

Luna finally found her voice.

"...Me?"

She let out a small laugh.

Not because it was funny.

Because she didn’t know how else to react.

"I don’t understand."

"I’ve never even been inside the building."

The older Kai turned toward the monitor.

"Haven’t you?"

The question silenced her.

Kai looked between them.

"What does that mean?"

The older Kai didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he walked toward the window overlooking the parking lot.

Morning traffic had started filling the streets.

People carried groceries.

Children walked toward the nearby park.

Cars passed by.

Life continued.

Completely unaware of the impossible thing standing inside Kai’s apartment.

"When memories disappear..."

The older Kai spoke quietly.

"People assume the events disappeared too."

He looked back at them.

"They didn’t."

"They still happened."

Kai frowned.

"What are you saying?"

The older Kai hesitated.

"I’m saying..."

He searched for the right words.

"...forgetting doesn’t undo anything."

His eyes shifted toward Luna’s Discord icon.

"You’ve been here before."

Silence.

"I..."

Luna’s voice sounded genuinely confused.

"No."

"I would’ve remembered."

The older Kai shook his head slightly.

"You would’ve remembered leaving."

A pause.

"Not arriving."

Luna’s breathing hitched.

"No..."

"I..."

She stopped.

A faint crackle of static came through the headset.

Kai immediately leaned closer to the microphone.

"Luna?"

No answer.

Only her breathing.

Fast.

Uneven.

"Luna?"

Then—

"I smell coffee."

Kai blinked.

"What?"

"I..."

Her voice sounded distant.

Almost like she wasn’t speaking to them anymore.

"...Fresh coffee."

She paused.

"I hear..."

A shaky breath.

"...birds."

Daniel slowly looked toward the open coffee cup in Kai’s hand.

Then toward the windows.

His expression changed.

"No."

Luna continued.

"I can hear..."

Another pause.

"...someone laughing outside."

Kai’s heartbeat quickened.

Those were the exact sounds surrounding his apartment.

The older Kai closed his eyes.

"It’s happening again."

Kai looked at him.

"What is?"

"Luna isn’t remembering."

His voice tightened.

"She’s syncing."

Kai stared.

"Syncing?"

The older Kai nodded.

"The closer she gets..."

"The more the memories overlap."

Luna suddenly gasped.

"I..."

Her voice shook.

"I know this apartment."

Kai froze.

She began speaking faster.

"The bookshelf."

"The broken picture frame."

"The crack near the smoke detector."

Tears entered her voice.

"I’ve..."

"I’ve stood in this living room."

Kai looked around.

Every detail she mentioned was there.

Every single one.

"I’ve..."

Her breathing became shaky.

"I was sitting..."

A pause.

"...on the couch."

Kai looked toward it.

"The blue one."

"It was newer."

Daniel frowned.

"It was."

Kai turned toward him.

"What?"

Daniel looked unsettled.

"When you first moved in..."

He pointed toward the couch.

"...it was blue."

Kai slowly looked back.

The couch was gray.

It had always been gray.

Hadn’t it?

Daniel rubbed his forehead.

"I..."

His expression twisted with confusion.

"It was blue."

"No..."

He looked around.

"Wasn’t it?"

The older Kai answered quietly.

"It was."

The room became silent.

Three different memories.

Three different versions of reality.

None of them matching.

Then Luna suddenly inhaled sharply.

"Oh."

Her voice became small.

"Oh no..."

Kai immediately moved closer to the monitor.

"What?"

"I remember."

His heart stopped.

"What do you remember?"

Luna started crying again.

Not quietly this time.

Not trying to hide it.

Real tears.

Real grief.

"I wasn’t watching your first stream."

Kai frowned.

"What?"

"I..."

Her voice cracked.

"...I was sitting beside you."

The apartment seemed to tilt.

The older Kai lowered his head.

He already knew.

"We built your streaming setup together."

Luna whispered.

"You kept putting the monitor upside down."

A laugh escaped Kai before he could stop it.

"...That’s stupid."

"You did."

She laughed through her tears.

"You blamed the instruction manual."

Daniel stared.

"That’s..."

Kai smiled faintly.

"I would absolutely do that."

Luna continued.

The memories came faster now.

"You ordered pizza."

"You dropped an entire slice on the keyboard."

A small smile appeared in her voice.

"You said..."

"...’The keyboard was hungry.’"

Kai’s chest tightened.

He remembered.

Not clearly.

Not like watching a movie.

More like a feeling.

Warmth.

Laughter.

Greasy pizza boxes scattered across the floor.

Someone laughing so hard they couldn’t breathe.

The memory vanished before he could grab onto it.

But it had been there.

For one second.

"I..."

Kai whispered.

"I almost remembered."

"I know."

Luna sounded heartbroken.

"I felt it too."

The older Kai finally spoke.

"This is why it’s hunting her."

Kai looked at him.

"It isn’t afraid you’ll remember."

The older Kai turned toward Luna’s glowing Discord icon.

"It’s afraid..."

A pause.

"...she already has."

As if responding to those words...

Every monitor in Kai’s apartment went black.

The Discord call disconnected.

The green icon disappeared.

Kai’s phone immediately lit up.

Calling... Luna

Not because he pressed anything.

The call had started by itself.

His thumb hovered over the glowing Accept button.

Then...

The phone rang.

Not from the speaker.

From somewhere inside Apartment 7C.

Deep within the darkness beyond the hidden doorway.

Someone was calling from the other side.

And Luna’s ringtone...

Was answering them.
