Chapter 795: Chapter 795: Letter

Just as she was about to inspect the flowers, Angel suddenly handed her a letter.

"This was inside the bouquet. It is for you."

Danielle accepted the letter and held it close to her chest.

The paper felt strangely warm beneath her fingers, and her heart fluttered at the possibility that perhaps, just perhaps, Asher had finally understood what she felt for him.

But if that was the case, then why had Asher confessed to Angel?

The thought immediately brought confusion crashing over her again. Nothing made sense.

With trembling fingers, Danielle opened the letter. Yet the moment she began reading, every lingering doubt inside her vanished.

Asher had written that Danielle was truly a good friend to him and that he knew about her feelings.

However, he expected her not to bring those feelings up in front of him again. The flowers and chocolates were nothing more than a parting gift.

That was all.

He hoped that if they ever met again in the future, Danielle would never mention her feelings or what had happened between them because doing so would only make things awkward.

When Danielle finished reading the letter, the warmth that had briefly filled her heart disappeared completely. It became cold and numb, as though someone had poured ice water directly over it.

So it had all been her wishful thinking.

Thinking back, she remembered that Asher had even mentioned her name at the beginning of the letter. It was painfully obvious now. He wanted to cut things off cleanly and create a clear distance between them.

Danielle’s fingers tightened around the paper. She crumpled the letter, intending to throw it away, but just before she could, she stopped.

Instead, she carefully slipped it into her pocket.

’No. I need to remember this, even after a long time has passed. I need something to remind me that I once loved a fool.’

With that thought, she pushed the letter deeper into her pocket and turned away.

After reaching the office, Danielle immediately noticed the strange looks being directed at her.

Conversations became quieter whenever she walked past, and several people exchanged knowing glances. She endured it all, pretending not to notice, until she heard someone whispering nearby.

"Does she not have even an ounce of shame? How can she go ahead and seduce someone who already has someone else whom he likes?"

The words struck her like a slap.

Danielle lowered her gaze even further and clenched her fist beneath the desk until her nails pressed into her palm.

’I do not need to focus on them. I only need to get through today.’

Repeating those words silently to herself, Danielle forced herself to finish her work. She left early that evening, eager to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the office.

However, when she reached the area near her house, she suddenly saw someone standing there.

For a moment, her heart skipped a beat. And sure enough, it was Asher.

He stood beneath the dim light, his expression serious as he took a deep breath.

The evening air was cool against Danielle’s face, but the moment she saw him, an uncomfortable warmth spread through her chest.

She walked toward him and forced a polite smile. "Sir, you are here."

Asher froze when he heard her voice. He looked at Danielle for a long moment before finally speaking.

"Did you not get the letter?"

Hearing those words, Danielle gritted her teeth, but she continued smiling.

"I did, and I would never mention those things ever again. So, do not worry."

Asher felt as though someone had poured a bucket of cold water over him. He stood there in stunned silence, unable to understand why her reaction was so different from what he had expected.

After remaining silent for a long moment, he finally asked in a trembling voice, "Did you even read what was inside it?"

Danielle nodded.

"I did, and I understand my position. I will never disturb you going forward."

With that, she turned around and walked toward her house.

Her steps were steady, but inside, her heart felt as though an invisible hand had clenched it tightly.

Asher watched her disappear toward the door, and the moment he heard her words again in his mind, something felt terribly wrong.

’Why did Danielle say she would never disturb me again?’

The contents of the letter were completely different from what she seemed to believe. He had never intended for her to misunderstand it in this way.

Realizing the anomaly, Asher immediately turned around. "Danielle, wait a minute."

But Danielle had already reached the door. She closed it without looking back.

It was as though she had not merely closed the door to her house, but had also closed the door to her heart toward him.

The next day, when Danielle entered the cafeteria, she immediately heard loud whispering around her. The conversations followed her from one table to another, and although people tried to lower their voices, they clearly wanted her to hear.

"Such an obvious homewrecker. If I did not know better, I would have thought she was innocent."

Another person immediately added,

"Her previous boyfriend dumped her because she used to mistreat his parents. Truly, you cannot judge a person by their work ethic alone. She looks like she has such a strong work ethic, but in reality, she is nothing more than a gold digger."

Danielle’s fingers curled tightly into fists.

The muscles in her jaw tensed as she tried to swallow the anger rising inside her.

She had spent the entire previous day enduring their whispers, but she could no longer pretend that she could hear nothing.

"If you all have something to say, then say it to my face."

Her voice rang across the cafeteria, causing several conversations to stop.

"There is no need to whisper those things loudly like cowards and expect me to figure out who you are. If you have something to say about me, then come and confront me directly."

The moment Danielle finished speaking, the blue-haired girl who was almost always beside Angel stepped forward.

"So, here it is. You went ahead and tried to seduce Asher, and it got to the point where he felt ashamed enough to send you flowers, chocolates, and a letter. The letter made it clear that he was asking you to back off, but you were the one who refused to understand and started pestering him. Did you not hear that he has already confessed to Angel? Have some shame."

Danielle’s fingers clenched even tighter.

She took a slow breath, forcing herself not to let the anger overwhelm her.

"Maybe my previous habits made me misunderstand him. I did like him, and I will not deny that. However, I never pestered him. Whenever I contacted him, it was only regarding professional matters, and I have not had any contact with him for the past three days."

She paused, her throat tightening as she tried to keep her voice steady.

"He only met me last night, and I had already made things clear. I told him that I would not pester him. All right?"

Her voice trembled slightly at the end, but she quickly steadied herself.

"There is no need to dig up my history. Do you even know how much I have suffered?"

Danielle looked at them one last time before turning around and walking away.

She kept her head held high, even though every step felt heavier than the last. Behind her, the whispers began again, but this time, she refused to turn around.

She refused to let herself be dragged down by a few bitches like Aqua, no matter how cruel their words became.

Aqua, the girl who had approached her earlier, sneered as she watched Danielle walk away.

"Keep pretending to be a good person, bitch."

With that, Aqua turned around and looked at Angel, who was still sobbing softly. She immediately softened her expression and gave Angel an encouraging smile.

"Angel, do not worry. You did the right thing."

Angel shook her head, her eyes still glistening with tears. "I just do not know what will happen if Asher falls for her instead."

Hearing those words, Aqua snorted disdainfully.

"If he does, then I will loathe him from the bottom of my heart. Could he not remain loyal to just one person?"

Angel did not say anything in response. She merely lowered her head, allowing her long hair to fall over part of her face.
