Chapter 2022: Chapter 2019: Forbidden Land
The black box contained a dark red jade tablet with three engraved characters: Ferryman.
The three girls’ eyes lit up, and they exclaimed with joy, "Found it."
"Don’t get too excited too soon. A jade tablet can’t contain much information, and besides, it’s uncertain if this is the Wangchuan River Ferryman." Lin Tian remained calm.
He didn’t mean to dampen the spirits of the three beauties but reminded them because that’s the nature of Meng Po’s records.
The three girls were taken aback, while Lin Tian had already flipped the jade tablet. On the back, there were only two characters: Blood Sea.
"Blood Sea!" Mu Yun exclaimed, her face looking quite unpleasant.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan asked simultaneously.
Mu Yun steadied herself, shook her head, and said, "It’s nothing. I can confirm that this ferryman must be the Yin Department you’re looking for because the Blood Sea is the end point of the Wangchuan River."
"That’s wonderful, but it’s indeed strange. The roster only has his position, no name," Xiao Manxuan said curiously.
Lin Tian found it strange too, but these Yin Department officials have lived for so long that people forget their names and only remember their titles. Like Meng Po, is Meng Po her real name?
"Mu Yun Envoy, since the jade tablet records the Blood Sea, does it mean we have to go to the Blood Sea to find the Ferryman?" Zhang Lingyu asked seriously.
Mu Yun thought for a moment and said uncertainly, "I’m not sure. The Blood Sea, being the end of the Wangchuan River, has accumulated resentment and filth from the Netherworld for thousands of years."
"The Blood Sea is ten times, hundreds of times more terrifying than the Wangchuan River. It’s a forbidden place like Hell, and no Yin officials dare to go there. Who would have thought the Ferryman is linked to the Blood Sea?" Mu Yun’s face tightened, her gaze exceedingly grave.
She is a Yaksha, still a First-class Impermanence. Others would consider her terrifying enough, yet even she fears the Blood Sea. Lin Tian couldn’t imagine what the Blood Sea would be like.
Nevertheless, Lin Tian finally understood why Mu Yun’s face changed dramatically upon hearing about the Blood Sea; it was due to this reason.
"No matter how terrifying it is, the Blood Sea is currently the only clue, the only place where we might find the Ferryman. I have to go. Xuanxuan, Lingyu, you..." Lin Tian said very seriously, but before he could finish, the two girls interrupted him.
"I know what you’re going to say. You want to go alone, right? No way, I’m going too." Zhang Lingyu’s expression was firm, her tone not open to negotiation.
"I’m going too; I won’t let you go on an adventure alone." Xiao Manxuan’s gaze was also very resolute, her eyes fixated on Lin Tian.
Lin Tian scratched his brow, quite troubled, "You’ve heard what Mu Yun said. The Blood Sea is a hundred times scarier than the Wangchuan River. It’s very dangerous. There might even be lustful ghosts who specifically catch beauties like you to become the Village Chief’s Wife."
"Humph, we’re not afraid of a lustful ghost even with you around. Why would we be afraid of lustful ghosts?" The two girls snorted and retorted.
"Come on, comparing me to a lustful ghost? Have you ever seen such a handsome and suave scoundrel like me?" Lin Tian was quite indignant.
In previous times, Lin Tian’s narcissism would certainly be met with disdain from the two girls, but they didn’t laugh. Zhang Lingyu looked at him seriously, "I know you’re doing it for our sake, but don’t forget, I have Dao skills, Xuanxuan has a guqin, and in crucial moments, we can help each other."
"Lingyu is right, you’re always shielding me from the wind and rain. Sometimes, let me share the burden for you." Xiao Manxuan said softly.
"Alright." Lin Tian was deeply moved by the two girls’ insistence. Such a bond is strongest only in dangerous situations.
After speaking, he looked at Mu Yun, who immediately said, "Since they’re going, I have no reason not to go. You’ve shown me human ties, something absent in the Netherworld. The Netherworld is a cold place."
"Mu Yun, you’ve shown me the fearlessness and integrity of the Netherworld. Unlike Hei Xin, Yin officials like you are the hope of the Netherworld." Lin Tian sincerely praised.
Mu Yun was surprised by Lin Tian’s high praise, stunned for a moment, then solemnly said, "Thank you."
"Alright, since we’ve decided to go to the Blood Sea, we should have a big meal first and prepare food and drinks. Who knows what the situation in the Blood Sea is like." Lin Tian waved his hand, making the decision.
Returning the box to its original position, the four of them went downstairs and left the pavilion. As they left, Lin Tian glanced back, wondering how many secrets even the Netherworld couldn’t record.
When they returned to the City Lord’s Mansion hall, Lin Tian saw Lord Zhu, with Hei Xin surprisingly seated beside him, leisurely sipping tea.
Lord Zhu stood up, smiling, "Everyone is out so soon? Calculate it, it’s less than three hours. Did you encounter any difficulties?"
Hei Xin squinted his eyes, revealing a smug smile, "People sometimes need to lower themselves when asking for favors. There’s no shame in playing the fool. Isn’t that how it is in the Human Realm?"
Hei Xin waited over two hours, just to make Lin Tian embarrassed, hoping to see Lin Tian humbly pleading, even kneeling down.
He spoke loftily, full of sarcasm. Xiao Manxuan couldn’t stand others mocking Lin Tian, and the little girl frowned, about to burst in anger.
Lin Tian gently patted her shoulder, ignoring Hei Xin, and addressed Lord Zhu, "No need to worry, City Lord. We’ve already found the necessary roster. However, this gentleman here, drinking tea and watching the show during work hours, perhaps the City Lord should take action, if not, dismiss him. The Netherworld shouldn’t be nurturing such idlers. If Yama finds out, he might blame you for poor management."
"Well..." Lord Zhu was momentarily speechless, quite embarrassed, and very surprised. Lin Tian had found the roster so quickly, such luck, but little did he know it was due to Lin Tian’s super vision.
Hei Xin awaited Lin Tian’s plea but was taken aback by Lin Tian’s words of accountability. His face fell as if slapped, feeling extremely uneasy.
Mu Yun found it amusing; in Fengdu City, everyone knew Hei Xin was a pervert, known for inventing various tortures, even ghosts feared him. Yet, Lin Tian dared to oppose him, displaying a rebellious quality.
"City Lord, farewell." Lin Tian smiled, taking the three girls and turning to leave, elegantly brisk.
As Lin Tian exited the hall door, Lord Zhu came back to his senses and couldn’t help but shout, "Where are you planning to go?"
Without turning back, Lin Tian pointed to the sky, "Blood Sea."
"Blood Sea!" Lord Zhu was shocked, and Hei Xin’s face changed drastically, shouting in surprise. Perhaps his legs went soft, and he plopped into a chair.
Hei Xin shook as he picked up his teacup, intending to sip tea to calm himself. Unexpectedly, half the tea spilled, and he couldn’t drink a drop. He and Lord Zhu appeared as though their souls had been lost, completely stunned by Lin Tian’s words.
