Chapter 2023: Chapter 2020: Never Abandon or Betray
"L-Lord... Zhu, didn’t they just say they were going to the Blood Sea?" Hei Xin put down his teacup, trying to act calm, but he couldn’t even keep his voice steady.
"Yes." Lord Zhu said, incomparably grave.
Hei Xin’s gaze flickered again and again, and finally a vicious light appeared in his eyes: "They really don’t know how high the sky is, daring to even go to the Blood Sea. I wonder how many will die? Haha, best if they all die!"
"Them all dying does us no good, but on this trip the odds are definitely against them..." Lord Zhu pondered for a moment, then said coolly, "Send a secret order to Mu Yun. She must obtain the method to close the passage before anything happens to them."
"Mu Yun has always been arrogant, how would she listen to us?" Hei Xin said through gritted teeth. Although they both belonged to the Netherworld’s Yin Department, he was very displeased with Mu Yun.
Lord Zhu waved his hand, saying calmly, "Relax, no matter how arrogant she is, she’s still of the Netherworld’s Yin Department; she knows her duty."
By this time, Lin Tian and the other three had already arrived at the Netherworld’s restaurant. They had been here once before; it seemed only this place served food from the Human Realm.
"Eat more, all of you. This isn’t the Human Realm; there’s nothing to eat on the road." Lin Tian quickly ate a few bites, put down his bowl and chopsticks, and reminded them.
Xiao Manxuan looked up, giving him a strange glance: "What? You’re full already?"
"No, I’m going to look for the shopkeeper and see what else we can prepare. You guys eat first." Lin Tian said casually, standing up.
He placed the guqin on the stool and walked toward the back, but he didn’t actually look for the shopkeeper. Instead, he kept going, passed through the kitchen, and went out the back door.
Without looking back, Lin Tian left the restaurant decisively, without informing the three women.
"Master, you’re just leaving like this, not waiting for them?" The Sword Spirit came to life again, asking curiously.
Lin Tian paused for a step, looked back at the restaurant, and his gaze became incomparably cold and desolate: "The Blood Sea is too dangerous. It’s enough if I go alone."
"Manly enough. This king is impressed." For once the Sword Spirit was serious, speaking very solemnly, but it quickly reverted to its chatterbox nature: "By the way, Master, you never asked for directions to the Blood Sea. How are you going to get there?"
Lin Tian walked as he spoke: "Those three beauties are incredibly smart. If I asked, they’d definitely guess I intend to go alone, so it’s better not to ask."
"As for how to go, didn’t Mu Yun say it? The end of the Wangchuan River is the Blood Sea. Just follow the Wangchuan River and you’ll get there sooner or later." Lin Tian was confident.
Though the method was a bit clumsy and not exactly a shortcut, at least he wouldn’t get lost.
"What a pity. If Master croaks this time, those two beauties will be widows." The Sword Spirit gloated.
"What nonsense are you spouting? The man’s not married, the women aren’t married, we’re all a bunch of single dogs—what widows?" Lin Tian said irritably.
"Sigh..." The Sword Spirit deliberately let out a long sigh, then said with a straight face, "Although this king is just a mass of energy without you humans’ fleshly bodies, I’ve at least lived longer than that Xu Feibai. So this king can see it clearly: those two girls are utterly devoted to you."
In his mind, Lin Tian stuck up a middle finger at it, full of disdain: "Hey, you’re just a Sword Spirit, and now you’re playing relationship guru? If we’re talking about affection, the Second Miss might have some. But that female Heavenly Master? She’s always butting heads with me—where’s the deep feeling in that?"
"Can’t live together, but are willing to die together—does that not count as utter devotion?" the Sword Spirit countered.
"Relax, if anyone dies it’ll only be me." Lin Tian said faintly.
Bantering and bickering with the Sword Spirit, Lin Tian didn’t have to worry about being bored on the road. He walked out of the back alley and, relying on the route in his memory, headed toward the city gate.
The direction he took led toward the Naihe Bridge. Normally, the dead couldn’t leave the city, but he had a Token on him. The city gate guards just glanced at the Token and let him through.
Moreover, Lin Tian released just a tiny bit of Evil Qi, and the gate guards were already too scared to even raise their heads. The difference in rank was too great—the higher suppresses the lower.
In their eyes, Lin Tian had become some big shot executing a secret mission, so the guards only gave his Token a perfunctory look before returning it.
Once he left the gate, plenty of wandering souls were entering the city, and there were also Ghost Messengers escorting evil spirits in. But those Ghost Messengers didn’t dare come up to check him. Bathed in the stares of all the ghosts, the timid ones would have peed themselves, yet Lin Tian kept his eyes straight ahead, utterly calm.
Following the familiar road, Lin Tian soon arrived at the banks of the Wangchuan River, with the Naihe Bridge right in front of him. But when he saw the bridgehead, he froze. Three beautiful women were standing at the bridgehead, and two of them were glaring at him.
"You..." Lin Tian’s eyes widened; his mind couldn’t turn the corner for a moment, because the three women before him were actually Xiao Manxuan, Zhang Lingyu, and Mu Yun.
Zhang Lingyu raised her hand and waved it, and Lin Tian suddenly felt his palm itch. He looked down and saw that the rune in his palm had somehow surfaced, emitting a faint glow.
"Don’t forget, I drew a rune on you." Zhang Lingyu revealed a smug smile.
Xiao Manxuan snorted and said with a playful pout, "Hmph, good thing Lingyu could track you, otherwise you’d have gone off alone." The little girl wanted to be angry, but she just couldn’t, because she understood Lin Tian.
Lin Tian didn’t smile. Instead, he looked at Zhang Lingyu and frowned slightly: "You want to drag everyone into the Land of Death."
"If we die, we die together." Zhang Lingyu didn’t avoid Lin Tian’s gaze at all. She met his eyes, firm as a rock, unshakable.
"If we die, we die together." Xiao Manxuan was just as resolute.
The string deep in Lin Tian’s heart trembled violently, and he couldn’t utter any words of refusal.
"Wow, if this king had women like that, dying would be worth it." The Sword Spirit screeched in his mind, and the nice atmosphere was instantly ruined by this guy.
Once again, Lin Tian raised a middle finger at it in his mind: "You’re just a clump of energy, what do you want women for?"
"Hehe, this king was just sighing with emotion." The Sword Spirit said shamelessly.
Lin Tian couldn’t be bothered with it. He walked straight up and pulled the two women into his arms. At a time like this, words were unnecessary.
Countless ghosts passed over the Naihe Bridge at every moment. Lin Tian, hugging one woman with each arm, instantly drew a crowd of ghosts around them to watch. People are like that—even after becoming ghosts and drinking Mengpo Soup, their love of gawking can’t be cured.
The two women hastily pushed Lin Tian away, their faces already as red as evening clouds. Lin Tian, acting as if nothing happened, moved in to hug Mu Yun next.
The ghost soldiers guarding the Naihe Bridge were gaping, because they recognized Mu Yun’s identity as a First-class Impermanence. They thought Mu Yun would surely give Lin Tian a severe lesson.
Yet Mu Yun didn’t push him away, letting Lin Tian hold her. That familiar faint fragrance appeared again, but Lin Tian didn’t indulge in it. Instead, he whispered in Mu Yun’s ear, "If there’s danger, don’t worry about me—save them first."
"Don’t worry. All I said was that the Blood Sea is dangerous, as long as you don’t act stupid and jump into the Blood Sea itself." Mu Yun replied softly.
"Hard to say. If going into the Blood Sea is the only way to find the Ferryman, I won’t have a choice." Lin Tian still spoke in a low voice.
"Hey, Lin Tian, aren’t you hugging her a bit too long? You even dare to take advantage of Mu Yun Envoy." Zhang Lingyu poked his waist with her finger, clearly dissatisfied.
